Meet Our Awesome Teachers!

Adult Teachers

Mr. Dundore, the director of the program, is a graduate from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Masters in the Art of Teaching – Music, and the acclaimed Berklee College of Music, with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Professional Music, Magna Cum Laude.

 

In addition to his education, Mr. D. is the director of the JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra (click here for more info), a group who performs concerts for charity.  This group has worked with many including JDRF, The Wounded Warrior Project, MS, the Nathan Chris Baker Foundation, Carroll County Special Olympics and local charities.  This group has raised over $40,000 in charity since its inception in the fall of 2010.  To find out more about this group, please click here.

 

For the past 14 years Mr. Dundore has been teaching in the Carroll County Public School system in various functions.

 

Mr. Dundore has been nominated as one of Carroll County’s “Outstanding Teachers” multiple times.

Jeff Nowak

 

Jeff retired from the federal government and loves to spend time with his kids and grandkids. He and his wife enjoy road trips across  the country.  This year they went to the gulf shores of Alabama.  He has been playing guitar for 40 years, harmonica for 10 years and ukulele for 5 years. He enjoys being part of the  JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra (click here for more info) and a music group at Carroll Community College.  He enjoys teaching guitar, harmonica and ukulele, and likes to learn about current music from his students.

Mikayla Rodski

 

She is a recent graduate of Liberty High School and will be attending Stevenson University for a major in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Music. 

 

This is her 4th year teaching with the Awesome Kids Program, and 5th year with the Awesome Kids Summer Session. She enjoys watching the kids she teaches learn how to explore different opportunities.  She is also a cello player in the JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra (click here for more info).

Mr. Erdman

 

Mr. Erdman is a young teacher in his second year teaching eighth grade English language arts at Oklahoma Road. He graduated with his Masters of Arts of Teaching in 2017 from Towson University. Some of his favorite author’s include Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy. He also helps out with the after school tutoring program at Oklahoma Road Middle School. When not planning lessons on vocabulary, writing, or the current novel in the curriculum he enjoys outdoor activities such as running, hiking, rock climbing, disc golf, and camping. He enjoys helping students think critically, read easier , and raising their self-esteem to believe they can be a great writer.

Mrs. Erdman

Mrs. Erdman currently works as a One-on-One Assistant at Piney Ridge Elementary School and is very excited to begin teaching art and sewing classes through the Awesome Kids Program. Meg has been a life-long crafter. She enjoys painting, sewing, knitting, and making pottery. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics in 2015. While at Towson University, she discovered her passion for teaching when she began working for TU’s outdoor education program. She later worked as the Program Director for an outdoor education non profit in northern Baltimore County. Meg is now working towards her Master’s degree in Elementary Education. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, bread baking, cooking, drinking coffee, gardening, and making pottery.

Maya

 

Maya is currently a senior at Liberty High School. At Liberty, she is Drum Major of the Marching Band, Vice President of Debate Club, and on the Mural Painting team. She has played the French horn for eight years and played with the JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra for six years. She has taken many art classes, and her work has been featured at student galleries and shows across Maryland. She plans to major in Graphic Design in college next year.

Michael

​

Michael is a sophomore at Century High School in Sykesville, MD.  He is 15 years old and has taught Awesome Kids classes such as piano, movie making, engineering, computer coding, guitar, band and orchestra and camp instructor.  He is a junior fire fighter with the Sykesville Fire Department and loves it!  He is a distinguished honor student at Century High School where he plays trumpet in the marching band.

Steven

 

Steven has been teaching with the Awesome Kids Program since the summer of 2017.  He has taught MinecraftEdu, Piano, Engineering, and Lego Programming. Steven is currently a senior at Liberty High School and is on their track and field team.

​Justin

​

Justin has been working with the Awesome Kids Program since the spring of 2017. He is a senior at Liberty High School, where he is a leader in many clubs and the student government association. He has been a member of several LEGO robotics teams, and he is also active in Scouts. Justin has taught many classes with AKP, including movie making, engineering, Minecraft Edu, and LEGO Robot programming.

Anandita

 

Anan is a student at Century High School and she loves working with kids. She has taken STEM-related classes and has a lot of experience in tutoring students of all ages.  Anan will be learning to teach many of our classes this year!

​Olivia

​

Olivia has been working with the Awesome Kids Program since the spring of 2017. In the past, she has taught guitar and LEGO math. She is a senior at Liberty High School and is currently in the marching band’s color guard. Olivia also has a leadership position in the National Honors Society at Liberty.
