Why should elementary students learn robotics and coding?
Through coding students learn about computational thinking. Computational thinking is a fundamental set of skills all students need to learn to be prepared for real world challenges. This approach helps students in STEM and other subject areas.
Computational thinking involves:

By using computational thinking strategies, students are better prepared for the real world by exploring, building, coding, testing and refining their solutions to STEM challenges.
LEGO Robot Computer Coding
As part of the STEM Room activities, this is offered Monday-Friday.
Focus Day: Wednesday
K-5th Grade - Students learn to code Robots with LEGOs! First students build their own robots, write commands on a laptop or tablet, then watch their machines follow the coded instruction. Build a robot, test it out, find solutions!
Through the "Build, Code, Learn" technique students build real life structures, punch in code, and see their ideas come to life! Not only do students learn code, but other concepts included in the S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, math) framework.

1. Build
Students build STEM projects by combining LEGO bricks with coding software meant especially for elementary school students. Students better relate to the subject by exploring in a real-world environment.
2. Code
Science comes to life through coding! Whether it be by drag and drop or more complex algorithms, students are encouraged to explore the world around them and develop their ideas through code and the robots they build.
3. Learn
By taking part in STEM challenges that engage real-life, physical and digital creation, students transform thought processes into programming solutions.

Transportation: Transportation will be offered from Freedom, Linton and Carrolltowne to class (held at Piney Ridge) for a $25 transportation fee every 4 weeks.
